9th and 9th
9th and 9th is a small retail and residential neighborhood in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is located 2 blocks East of Liberty Park, the area gets its name from the local grid style intersection of 900 South and 900 East. The area is one of Salt Lake's artistic/bohemian hubsand is a popular spot for writers, artists, film makers and alll those that would like to be.
Kinetic Sculptures on the corners of the intersection were installed during the summer of 2007, along with sidewalk and street improvements. The Kinetic sculpture art displays were inspired by the 9 Muses of Greek myth and were installed on all 4 corners of the intersection. The sculptures were created by Troy Pillow.
The
residents of East Central are either students, temporary renters or
long-time homeowners. There is a mix of the bohemian artist and ethnic groups.
This neighborhood is within walking distance of Trolley Square, TRAX
and downtown.
The Tower Theatre is an official venue for the Sundance Film Festival. The Salt Lake Film Society
owns and operates this theatre. Gay Movie Night is held here twice a
month and some midnight showings are free. Tower Theatre is home to
foreign films, independent art movies and lecture series hosting
screenwritesr, directors and actors.
The retail area is home to an eclectic variety of The Coffee Garen, Barbacoa Mexican Restaurant Mazza Cafe, Contender Bicycles, Great Harvest Bread and of course a Starbucks.
