Capitol Hill
Capitol Hill in
Salt Lake City gets its name from the Utah State Capitol prominently overlooking downtown. In addition, Capitol Hill can be considered a neighborhood of Salt Lake City.
Capitol Hill is the grand old lady of the city. The eclectic character of Capitol Hill is
akin to San Francisco as opposed to most of the Salt Lake
Valley. The homes are so interesting, they are in Utah but not of Utah
with a range of styles from Greek, Revival, Queen Ann to the classic Victorian that were implemented between 1880's to
1920's. Adding to the color are narrow,
irregular streets, steep hillsides, contrasting yards and embankments.
This unique setting overlooking downtown was never really
threatened by industrial or commercial development, except for a few corner
grocers that have come and gone, the neighborhood has remained intact.
This community
has four sub-neighborhoods: City Creek Canyon east of the Capitol
building, Marmalade district to the west, Wasatch Springs to the north
and Heber's Bench to the south.
Capitol Hill is home to Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC) - Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC) is a gathering place, a space created
to celebrate the collective imagination and encourage the exchange of
ideas. We present innovative and thought-provoking plays for Utah
audiences.
